COURSE DESCRIPTION

Please note: This course is intended for children age 6+.

Journal writing is a stimulating way to get students to think, to get them to be silly, to incorporate math, to hear what they have to say, and to get to know who they really are. That is exactly what this course is designed to do! In this on-going class, learners will respond to a question or writing prompt in a writing journal which they will keep. Regular writing practice allows children to build their confidence in their writing. They will be introduced to and practice writing skills such as: Capitalization, punctuation, and spacing their words out. Writers will strengthen their sentences by adding details and descriptive words when needed.

Learners will be encouraged to write their responses and ideas to suit their abilities and interests.

Journaling helps improve students’ mood and enhance behavior by: Helping them prioritize thoughts and concerns, as well as keep an ongoing account of their emotions.

Children will spend each day focused on an aspect of life worthy of gratitude and discover the joy that comes from starting and ending the day with a grateful heart.

Studies show that journaling with kids can increase long term wellbeing by more than 10%. That means less anxiety, better sleep, more motivation, more creativity, just to name a few!
